Many of the birds and florals I paint are special to people because they are a little reminder of home. For me, I feel this about Kookaburras and so, the Kingfisher - from the same bird family with their gorgeous plumage in all of my favourite colours fall into my "I will paint them forever" category.
I've chosen the name Iluka for this little lady, with Indigenous origins - from the extinct Yaygir language this name means "by the sea".
She's a Sacred Kingfisher, and to me she embodies all that I love about living near the ocean. We are SO blessed to enjoy these stunning beaches we call our own, and quite frankly - I'm yet to visit another overseas that compares.
*Because I am a perfectionist, in full disclosure there is a small area of inconsistency in the finish of the varnish on the background of this piece (top left hand corner). The price reflects this. This is not a defect, rather an unfortunate thing that can sometimes happen when varnishing it is only noticeable when the light hits that spot on certain angles.
